Share the Road with MotorcyclesJune 14, 2014 |
May was Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, a reminder to “share the road” with motorcycles and be extra alert to keep motorcyclists safe. But motorists are reminded that this “duty” extends throughout the year. According to NHTSA, in 2011 4,612 motorcyclists died and 81,000 were injured in accidents. Motorcyclists accounted for 14 percent of all traffic fatalities in 2011 and 49% of all motorcycles involved in fatal crashes collided with another type of motor vehicle in transport.
The great majority of the hundreds of Ohio motorcycle accident claims handled by Thorson, Switala, Mondock & Snead involved motorists turning left in front of the motorcycle. Before you drive through an intersection or make a left turn, check the position of oncoming motorcycles at least two or three times. Remember, look twice, save a life.Categories: Miscellaneous
